NEW NOVEL FROM OSWALDTWISTLE AUTHOR BRINGS 1930s LANCASHIRE TO LIFE
Lancashire readers have a new literary voice to celebrate as local author Gabriel Undici (Chris Whalen) releases his debut novel, Mind the Trams, a haunting and emotionally charged story set against the backdrop of 1930s Oswaldtwistle.
Drawing deeply from the rhythms, voices, and industrial heritage of the area, Mind the Trams follows the life of Doris Whittaker, a young bakery girl whose world becomes increasingly entangled with love, loss, war, and the whispered secrets of Paddock Convent.
Undici — who writes from a home overlooking the tramlines that once linked Accrington’s mills — blends historical detail with lyrical storytelling, evoking the grit and beauty of working-class life. Local landmarks such as Moorfield Colliery, Ewbank’s factory, St James’ Church and, of course, the famous Lockwood’s Bakery, appear throughout the novel.
Speaking to the Herald, Undici said:
> “This book is my love letter to Ossy — its people, its humour, its heartbreak, and the way stories travel down a street faster than a tram ever could.”
It’s available on Amazon as both a paperback and Kindle version.
