Accrington Musical | Mind The Trams Musical Begins Soon

The Mind The Trams musical project is about to begin. Follow the development of an original Lancashire musical inspired by Accrington and Oswaldtwistle.

An Accrington Musical Is About to Begin

In two weeks, work begins on the next stage of Mind The Trams — bringing its characters, stories and songs together as an original Accrington musical.

The project has grown from a novel rooted in 1939 Lancashire into something considerably larger. Songs have been written for the characters, stories have developed beyond the pages of the book, and the Mind The Trams Songbook has gradually created a musical voice of its own.

Now those pieces are ready to come together.

A Musical Rooted in Accrington and Lancashire

This won’t simply be a novel with songs added to it.

The aim is to build a musical that feels as though it belongs here: Accrington, Oswaldtwistle and the Lancashire mill towns that shaped the story.

Friendship, humour, work, love and approaching war all sit within the world of Mind The Trams, alongside the ordinary people whose lives rarely find their way into history books.

Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing the development of the musical — from the earliest structure and song choices through to characters, scenes and the inevitable ideas that don’t survive the journey.

For now, we’re on countdown.

Two weeks to go.

And then we find out where the music takes us.

Mind Those Trams.
