Follow the creation of the Mind The Trams musical, an original Oswaldtwistle musical inspired by local characters, Lancashire history and 1939 life.

From Oswaldtwistle to a Musical

Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire — 1939.

Trams rattle through familiar streets. Mills dominate the skyline. Lockwood’s Bakery opens its doors for another morning and ordinary lives continue while the world beyond Lancashire moves steadily towards war.

It is the world at the heart of Mind The Trams.

And soon, it becomes the starting point for an original Oswaldtwistle musical.

The Mind The Trams Musical

Over the past months, the characters of the novel have gradually found their own songs.

Some are funny. Some are romantic. Others tell stories of friendship, family, loss and lives changed forever by war.

In approximately two weeks, the next stage begins: taking those individual songs and exploring how they might work together as one complete musical story.

The setting will remain unmistakably Lancashire.

Oswaldtwistle matters.

Its streets, mills, bakery, ballroom, people and humour aren’t simply a backdrop to the story — they’re part of its identity.

Follow the Musical as It Develops

Rather than disappearing for months and returning with a finished project, I’m going to document the journey.

Songs will move. Scenes will change. Characters may surprise us.

Some ideas will work.

Others almost certainly won’t.

But from the first notes onwards, the development of the Mind The Trams musical will be shared here.

The countdown has begun.

Mind Those Trams.
