Mind The Trams – Synopsis
Set in a Lancashire mill town on the brink of war, Mind The Trams follows the life of Doris — a young woman caught between duty, desire, and the weight of a past she never chose.
Working behind the counter at Lockwood’s Bakery, Doris appears ordinary at first glance. But beneath her quiet exterior lies resilience forged through hardship. Orphaned young, shaped by the strict discipline of convent life, and shadowed by the loss of her beloved brother, she navigates a world of mill whistles, tram bells, and tightly wound social expectations.
Around her circles a cast of unforgettable characters:
Nellie — fiery, loyal, and determined to carve her own future.
Rueben — strong, ambitious, and hopeful.
George — steady, protective, bound by a promise.
Jimmy — charming and unpredictable.
Tourney — powerful, calculating, and dangerous in ways not immediately visible.
As St George’s Day approaches and the promise of a grand dance lights up the town, Doris finds herself at the centre of quiet rivalries and unspoken tensions. Each invitation written on her dance card carries more than a name — it carries consequence.
Against a backdrop of circus processions, quarry dust, village gossip, and looming political unrest, Mind The Trams explores love, class, power, and the fragile courage it takes to choose one’s own path.
In a town where everyone is watching, and the tramlines run straight through the heart of daily life, Doris must learn when to step aside…
and when to stand her ground.
Because sometimes the greatest danger isn’t the tram you see coming —
it’s the one you never expected.
